WILLS

Everyone should have a will. Without a will, the distribution of your estate will be determined by the provisions of a statute, the Succession Law Reform Act, and more importantly, you will have left those who survive you without any clear direction on who should be administering your estate and caring for any minor children.

Not having a will can result in delays in the administration of your estate and in costs to your estate which need not be incurred.

WHY USE A LAWYER?

There are various services and do it yourself kits which cost less than having a lawyer prepare your will. These do it yourself options, if used properly, result in a legal will and if it is question of doing it yourself or having no will at all then you are likely better off doing it yourself.

Lawyers add significant value to the process of preparing your will. In addition to reviewing your will and ensuring that it is properly executed, we provide services and advice that do it yourself options cannot, including:

The preparation of an Affidavit of Execution
(a document proving the proper execution of your will)

Storage of your will in our fireproof safe

Advice regarding steps you can take to arrange your affairs to ensure that your estate can be administered easily and efficiently

Advice regarding and the preparation of a will specific to you and
to your needs and wishes.

FEES

Our goal is to make the professional preparation of a will accessible to everyone. Most individuals require a basic will, will not require extensive estate planning and for those individuals we offer a flat fee of $200.00 per will, plus GST.

WILLS BY E-MAIL

We offer a substantially discounted fee for filling out and returning our will and powers information form, because having you fill out the form substantially reduces the amount of time spent preparing your will.

If you have filled out and returned the form by e-mail or fax our fee is $100.00 per will, plus GST.

WILL REVISIONS/CODICILS

Our fee for either a revision or a codicil is $100.00, plus GST. Our usual practice is to revise the entire will. Historically, a codicil, that is an additional document modifying the original will, was used to make minor and sometimes substantial changes. This often results in confusion and it is our preference to revise the entire document for clarity and ease of use. The fee is the same either way.
